Stack’s Bowers Galleries is delighted to feature the incredible Lord St. Oswald-Norweb 1794 Flowing Hair silver dollar as part of their August 2017 ANA World’s Fair of Money Auction in Denver, Colorado. This MS-64 (PCGS) example was last offered at public auction in the firm’s sale of the Norweb Collection in November 1988.

Stack’s Bowers Galleries is excited to announce details of their May 2017 Collector’s Choice Online Auction of World and Ancient coins and World Currency. The Ancient coins auction will begin live bidding on Wednesday, May 17th at 9 AM Pacific Time. World currency will begin at 11 AM Pacific Time. World coins auction will begin live bidding on Thursday, May 18th at 9 AM Pacific Time. The Collectors Choice sales close live, with an auctioneer, though bids may be submitted ahead of time as well.

April is always an exciting time in Kowloon, Hong Kong, as hundreds of coin and paper money dealers, collectors and enthusiasts gather for a week of world class auctions and the fastest growing coin and paper money show. This past week Stack’s Bowers and Ponterio brought their semi-annual sale to the Mira Hotel where it attracted spirited bidding from all over the world.

There was certainly no shortage of significant numismatic offerings throughout the Stack’s Bowers Galleries Official Auction of the Whitman Coins and Collectibles Expo, held at the Baltimore Convention center in the final week of March.  Anchored by the exceptional Blue Moon Collection, Part I, and the Collections of Dr. Gordon Shaw and Anthony Bettencourt, this event featured numerous fresh and high quality assemblages that elicited strong bidding in every session.

Fifth Sale Nets Over $21 Million for 232 Coins

Setting a new world record for the most valuable numismatic cabinet ever sold, and perhaps a new world record for any holding of collectibles in any field, the D. Brent Pogue Collection netted total sales of $106,720,432.25 over the course of five auction events held from 2015 to 2017. Pogue V yielded sales of $21,402,213.75, highlighted by the Dexter specimen of the legendary 1804 dollar, which brought just under $3.3 million. The Pogue Collection, assembled by father and son Mack and Brent Pogue over the course of more than three decades, focused on the highest quality United States coins dated from 1793 to 1840.
