Frank Van Valen is one of America’s best known numismatic personalities and one of our senior cataloguers, and is now in his 21st year of working with Q. David Bowers, first at Bowers and Merena, then American Numismatic Rarities, and now for the Stack's organization. Widely praised for over two decades for his numismatic expertise, Frank’s byline has appeared in scores of the most important auction catalogues ever written including the Ambassador and Mrs. R. Henry Norweb Collection of U.S. Coins, and specialized collections such as the Texas Collection of California Fractional Gold and the historic coin collection of Commodore Matthew C. Perry. A coin collector since 1961, Frank has contributed to the last 19 editions of A Guide Book of United States Coinsand his writing talents have earned him the recognition of the NLG. Additionally, his writings have appeared in The Numismatist and many club periodicals over the years. A current ANA Life Member with nearly 30 years of membership, he has taught courses on U.S. type coins at numerous summer seminars hosted by the ANA, and is a member of many national and specialty organizations as well. Frank has an expert understanding of the intricacies of all American coinage in addition to many other numismatic fields. He is also one of our very popular and featured auctioneers.
