In connection with our extensive offering of treasures from the Archives of the American Bank Note Company (ABNCo), Stack’s is pleased to present a “Dutch Auction.” We invite you to participate on our website. Listed will be nearly 500 engraved steel vignette and title plates, mostly ranging in size from about playing card and postcard size, upward, each to be described and illustrated. These were created as part of the production process for everything from bank notes (in some cases) to just about any other printed form that would have included the title of the bank, and more.
Offered are titles, blocks, headings, and other original security printing vignettes for obsolete bank notes, National Bank notes, bank and commercial documents, stock certificates of various companies in trade and manufacture, and other interesting items. To date, our offering of related items (nearly all are unique) has created a sensation in the world of bank notes, engraving history, and Americana. There has never been an offering like it, and once the items are sold, no similar sale will ever occur again!
From 1858 onward, ABNCo was the leading printer of currency for state chartered banks, federal paper money (before the Bureau of Engraving and Printing took over the work), stock certificates, security documents, stamps, and more. It cannot be overemphasized that nearly all of these are absolutely unique—one of a kind—once sold, not replaceable at any price, unless the owner decides to part with an item. Each steel (usually) or copper vignette plate will be assigned a lot number, and illustrated on this website.
Beginning on Sunday, May 13 (Mother’s day) at noon EST, each item will be available on a first come, first served basis at $450. All you have to do is be the first one to put an item your shopping cart and follow the checkout instructions to be successful. In each instance the first order we confirm will be the successful buyer. Then starting at noon on Sunday, May 20th, similar to the famous Dutch flower auctions, we will reduce the price of each plate still available by $25 every weekday at noon EDT until all the lots are gone. Minimum price during the final days will be $50 and each will have an additional shipping and handling fee included on the invoice. See our website for details.
Plan now to be a part of one of the most treasure-laden, most interesting, most memorable Internet sale offerings ever made!
