Dave's Notes

Welcome to Dave's Notes. I hope you have had a nice week. Preparing these "Notes" is always a lot of fun, as I have to stop to consider what to emphasize, and also what surrounding material-"This and That," and so on-to include. Sometimes there are far more things on hand than the space available. For example, I have enough "Ask the Experts" questions to last into early next year!

The Whitman Encyclopedia of U.S. Paper Money has arrived, and we are busy filling all pre-publication orders on hand-a really great pile of books! It has been a pleasure to autograph and personalize as requested. Although the book is now a reality, our special pre-publication price is still in effect if you order by October 31. This book, 900 pages in length, color illustrated, has more information on federal paper money (plus colonial notes, plus encased postage stamps, plus Fractional Currency, plus a few other things) than any other volume ever printed.

The list price is $69.95 plus $7 postage (and it is a really heavy book!). Pre-publication price is $58.95 plus postage. If you'd like one, just telephone 1-866-811-1804, or go to our Website and enter your order there. Get set for a lot of information you can use profitably!

Here at the New Hampshire office the fall foliage is in its height, with lots of tourists ("leafpeepers" we call them) coming from all over the place and taking pictures. And, I have been doing the same.

In the meantime, at the main office at 123 West 57th Street and at the New Hampshire office all hands are on deck with preparation of our 74th Anniversary Sale to be held just before the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Expo in Baltimore next month. Consignments are closed, but our lead auction directors, John Pack and Vicken Yegparian, are accepting coins, tokens, medals, and paper money for our January auctions, including our perennially popular Americana Sale. Looking far ahead, later in 2010 we will be having a really grand sale of United States paper money from colonial times down to the modern era.

Thinking of selling? There's no better place than Stack's. Ever since 1935 we've sold more valuable collections and rarities than the next two auction houses combined. Tap into our expertise. Your bottom line will benefit!

Here is wishing you a very nice numismatic time until we meet in this column next week.

Best Wishes,

Dave Bowers
