Welcome to the latest edition of my Notes. I hope you had a nice Columbus Day Weekend and have enjoyed your surroundings and numismatics since my last posting. Here in New Hampshire the fall foliage is in its height, with tourists coming from all directions and with locals also carrying cameras. I spent a day on some of the byways in our area, and attach herewith sample pictures.
In this column I have mentioned my new book that was recently published, The Whitman Encyclopedia of United States Paper Money. Now come John and Nancy Wilson with a very nice review, unsolicited, but splendid. See "Latest News."
We have been as busy as beavers on our Anniversary Sale catalogue, which will be in your hands toward the end of the month or early November. This will be held in Baltimore just before the Whitman Coins & Currency Expo, always a memorable event. The auction contains many highlights--a truly great Kellogg & Humbert ingot and a wonderful original 1861 Confederate States of America are just two-plus other items ranging from inexpensive on upward, and from readily available to extremely rare. Part II of the Bleviss Collection of Civil War tokens will be showcased, as will the Robert Vlack Collection of advertising notes. Plus so much more! Truly, there will be something for everyone.
The echoes of our recent Americana Sale are still heard-lots of excitement, lots of activity, and strong bids from established collectors. While it is difficult to predict what is going on with the American economy, every old-time numismatist with whom we are acquainted is still collecting as avidly as ever! Indeed, we are all fortunate to be a part of numismatics.
Enjoy the coming week. I'll "see you" soon again in this column.
Best Wishes,
