Dave's Notes

Friday, October 30, 2009

Welcome to the latest addition of my Notes. Gold continues to be very much in the spotlight lately, continuing the international interest in precious metal, as the national and world economy becomes more uncertain. Unemployment is rising, many businesses are having a difficult time, and the government is writing checks on an empty account. Gold-numismatic gold as well as bullion gold-can offer a comfortable feeling. Many people, perhaps the majority of wise investors, consider it prudent to have at least some gold. As numismatists, you and I like numismatic items best of all. The premium on common date double eagles in lower Mint State range is about as low as we have seen it in a long time. Of course, all gold coins are interesting-from the very first 1795 half eagle, down to the present day.

Coming up soon is our Baltimore sale preceding the Whitman Coins and Collectibles Expo, always a dynamic event. I invite you to participate. A catalogue has or will soon arrive in your mailbox--or the presentation can be viewed on the Internet.

Thinking of selling?

Three great consignment opportunities await you now. Our Orlando sale, preceding the Florida United Numismatists Convention, has always attracted eager buyers who come to Florida from all directions. The sale is filling up fast, and if you would like to consign United States coins or paper money, there is not a moment to lose. Just contact John Pack or Vicken Yegparian at 800-566-2580.

Our sale of world coins in New York City will include coins from Ancient Roman and Greek times down to the modern era. Our popular Americana sale, also in New York City, will feature coins, tokens, medals and paper money, ranging from entry level to great rarities.

I invite you to tap Stack's unequal record as the world's leading auctioneer. Since 1935 we have handled more important collections, rarities, and other properties than any other firm. Thousands of consignors have profited greatly. While I can contemplate our sale of the most valuable collection to have ever crossed the auction block, our recent offering of the Ford collection at nearly $60 million, the most valuable coin to ever be sold, the 1933 $20 and such and such, the typical consignment we receive runs from the thousands of dollars into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Whether you have some choice individual items or an entire collection, let us partner with you to get the best results possible.

All good wishes to you for the week to come.

Best Wishes,

Dave Bowers
